Why you should choose an in home newborn session?
The choice is yours but let me tell you why you should.
First I want to mention everyone's styles and aesthetic is different, I am in no way saying you should not go to a studio and get newborn portraits taken. I am, however, sharing the perks of having myself come to your own instead!
Lets start with the style of photography, lifestyle. Lifestyle photography is typically taken in a natural setting. The setting could be outdoors or in your home. When I say natural, I mean you as the natural subject being yourself and candid in your own environment.
I can speak from experience when I say after having my first baby, it was rough start. For this reason I chose not to do newborn photos but when it came around to my second I thought things would be different. My experience during my daughters newborn session was not what I thought it would be. It was no ones fault, it just happened. She was cranky that day, didn't want to sleep, I didn't pack enough formula, and the list goes on. It was stressful. I remember thinking to myself, "I just want to go home." and maybe if I was at home, maybe things would have gone differently.
When taking photos in your home, you are already in your own element. You have everything you need for yourself and your newborn baby. If they need to sleep, I can capture photos of you rocking them. If they need to be fed, I can capture photos of you feeding them. If they need comfort, I can capture photos of that as well. The session doesn't need to feel rushed or stressful because you are where you and your baby need to be. The stress of packing up all your stuff and hulling it to a studio is not there. The thought of "did I forget anything?" isn't there.
I recently did a newborn photo session where the mom was exclusively breastfeeding and hunger strikes out of no where sometimes. She asked me if it was ok if she made a snack while I continued taking the portraits her daughter. I, of course, encouraged her to do so and she replied with: "I'm so happy I'm in my own home right now."
